Uniformed organisations at St Thomas'

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides are part of Girlguiding UK and the worldwide Guide Association in which members are united in the making of a promise, developing beliefs and working together Girls develop self-confidence and independence, build friendships, learn new skills, give service and have fun

Rainbows are girls aged 5 – 7 

  • Meet in the Gyle Hall  on term time Wednesdays, 6 – 7pm
  • Enjoy games and crafts
  • Follow a programme called the Rainbow Jigsaw divided into four sections:
    • look
    • learn
    • laugh
    • love

Brownies are girls aged 7 – 10

  • Meet in the Main Hall on term time Wednesdays, 6 – 7.30pm
  • Work together in small groups called sixes
  • Follow a programme called the Brownie Adventure divided into three sections:     
    • you
    • community
    • world
  • Enjoy working towards interest badges, playing games, making things, learning new skills
  • We are currently celebrating 100 years of Brownies with events locally here in Edinburgh.
Highlights include: 
  • a visit to sing carols and give gifts and calendars to the people in Corstorphine Hospital each Christmas
  • a summer outing, a day exploring and having fun at a venue within an hour’s reach of Edinburgh

Guides are girls aged 10-15

  • Meet in the Gyle Hall on term time Fridays, 7.30 – 9pm 
  • We are grouped together in patrols where we choose to work together on themed 'Go For Its', choosing, planning  and carrying out a range of activities over 4-6 weeks
  • We follow a programme which is divided into 5 sections:    
    • discovery of new experiences and challenges
    • healthy lifestyles
    • global awareness
    • skills and relationships
    • celebrating diversity
  • Individually, we can choose to work towards Guide interest badges 
  • Enjoy games, campfires, singing, cooking, challenges, new opportunities
  • Gain Challenge badges that recognise our participation in guiding over a year or more
Highlights include:
  • an annual visit to  enjoy the Edinburgh Scout and Guide Gang Show at the King’s Theatre
  • a summer camp under canvas, cooking on open fires and living out of doors
