St Thomas' Trustees and Vestry

Email: vestry@saintthomas.org.uk

The spiritual welfare of the congregation of St T’s is in the hands of the Rector whilst the whole temporal affairs of the church are committed to the management of the Vestry. There are 12 Vestry members, some elected by the congregation and some appointed by Vestry. Decisions are, in practice, usually taken by consensus. Unlike other Scottish Episcopal churches, we own our own buildings. Title is vested in 3 congregational Trustees. In view of their responsibility for our most significant property assets, the St Thomas’ Trustees attend at and participate in Vestry meetings. As mature Christians of longstanding, they contribute much wisdom and they have come to be regarded as having a special responsibility for the maintenance of our evangelical ethos. During a vacancy, the Trustees have a particular role to play, in conjunction with the Vestry, in seeking a new Rector and presenting that person to the congregation and the bishop who oversees our ministry.
